Bokashi is Japanese for “fermented organic matter” and is a simple method of producing rich organic compost in your kitchen.*
The Bokashi is made by inoculating bran with a variety of beneficial bacteria or micro-organisms; these microbes pickle your food waste instead of letting it rot, creating liquid plant food and wonderful compost in the process.
Effective microbes are a combination of Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Planarum, Lactobacillus Fermentum, Lactobacillus Delbrueckii, Bacillus Subtilis, Phodopseudomonas Palustris and Sarcharomyces Cervisiae. Wow that’s a mouthful isn’t it? We simply refer to all these helpful micro-organisms as EM.
EM combines with already present (bacteria) microbes to foster healthy soils and optimal growing conditions for plants. We know it works – see Our Gallery page for proof!
REDUCE foodwaste going to the landfill whilst REUSING and RECYCLING it for compost and liquid plant food.
We love it!
* Please note the contents of the bin must be buried in the ground or placed in a container outside and covered with at least 20cm of soil for 6-8 weeks to complete the composting process
